Teaching Purity to Our Daughters (AND a Pam Stenzel DVD Giveaway)

“Why do brides wear white?”

After saying nightly prayers and setting out dresses for a wedding the following day, I was surprised to hear Grace thinking through the details.

“White is the color of innocence,” we explained. “It means that they listened to God in their choices.”

A child appropriate answer for an adult subject: S-E-X.

Despite being one of the smallest words in the English language, it unearths massive power. The decisions that our daughters make about sex before they walk the aisle will affect them physically, emotionally, and spiritually before they say “I do” and after.

So, how do we as mothers empower them to make right choices?

AND THE GIVEAWAY!

Internationally known abstinence speaker, Pam Stenzel, is a mother of three and speaks to over half a million teens worldwide per year. She knows the issues that today's young people face and the questions parents have. In her new faith-based Parents Matter: Raising Kids with Integrity DVD, Stenzel educates parents on up-to-date consequences to premarital sex, and empowers parents with useful suggestions to open up lines of communication and teach healthy dating. Providing you with the tools that you need to confidently build character and discuss sexuality with your daughters and sons, this DVD is a must-have for all parents. Since I write with Pam, I told her about my ModSquad post and she graciously provided one copy of Parents Matter for me to give away to a lucky winner!

All that you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post about why you would like to win. The giveaway will remain open for entries until Wednesday, Sept 1 at 10pm CST. I will use random.org to select the winning comment number. Then, be sure to follow the blog to know if you are the winner, which will be announced Thursday, Sept 2. Also, please leave some indentifying info for me to follow up with you - email or a twitter name.

One person is going to be blessed beyond measure by the great speaking and incredible teaching Pam offers. Will it be you?

  2. Melissa,
Thank you for being such a positive influence for Moms in this culture, what a great resource we have in you. I would love to have the opportunity to win Pam Stenzel's latest DVD, I have a daughter who is 12 and three sons, 14, 10 and 5. I was recently introduced to Pam's works by a dear and trusted mentor. She let me borrow Pam's DVD, "Sex (still) has a price tag." I found her wisdom on chastity to be extremely empowering. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to have a chance to win Pam's latest DVD. I can be reached by email, it is joanne@hsxn.com Thanks again!

  4. I have been the go to person for all things HS for a couple girls at church. I think this would come in handy in dealing with the questions about boyfriends. I also have a five year old who we have already caught flirting. We are in trouble I think.

Melissa, thank you for your encouraging words and Godly example. I would be honored to receive Pam's DVD about raising kids with integrity. What a blessing and great responsibility we have as parents to raise our kids to lead a life that is pleasing to the Lord. I desire discipleship in this area and long to grow and mature as a Christian, so I can help guide my children in the right direction. My email address is Timmers7@aol.com. Thank you for blessing others!

  8. I have two boys, little boys, but My husband and I teach the youth in our church.

I feel it is our responsibility as leaders to teach our "daughters" about life as a Christian woman, just as the elder women are teaching me and my friends.

We learned this in Titus. I love Pam's stuff, however, since I have boys and they're very young, I don't really want to put my name in for the DVD from Pam.

It was nice to see her at a small Church School in our area when I was still in High School.
    I loved it.

  10. I would like to win because I'd love to hear Pam's thoughts on raising children with integrity. So far we have one small daughter but this is a dvd that could help us through her upbringing and all of our future children. Sometimes I have questions about teaching them this subject and I'm sure this dvd would help!

  14. When I imagined being a mother I always pictured myself with small children. Well, now that those small children are racing into their teen years, I have a bunch of preparation to do to get ready for the details that are so incredibly needed to raise children with integrity, purity and a lasting faith. THanks for the opportunity to win!

  16. What a great post! I have one daughter and two sons. My sons I had when I was a teen mom and their dad and I never married. I am now a Christian and would love to be able to teach my daughter the purity of abstinence and purity to come to her wedding day as a virgin. The DVD would not only teach my daughter but would also teach me the things that I never knew or have done.

Thanks for the ministry that you do.

  17. I would love the teaching offered, simply because I am a parent of two girls, and in the society surrounding us, the messages are so contrary to God's ways! I came via MODsquad, and thank you for your words and commitment!

  20. This is a hot topic in our house right now. Our 9 year old daughter has gone from little girl to big girl wanting answers overnight! I'm not prepared!!

  21. This would be wonderful if it would open up some doors to conversation with my 15 year old daughter who doesn't "hear" me any more. I'm so glad there are people like you who write on purity and the dangers of pre-marital sex. I am getting ready to start working at a different school (health staff) and I was stunned to really think about the fact that we will have pregnant freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Mind boggling and sad.

  26. What a wonderful gift this would be for my daughter and her three daughters. Grandms's girls are growing up fast. I look at them and marvel at the innocence in their eyes and their hearts and I want to capture that forever. This DVD would be the morter for the foundation of happy teen, dating years just around the corner--ages 11, 9 & 7). In His Love, jansamuels@hotmail.com
